About Truvel
Truvel means true travel: journeys as they really run, not just what the timetable says. It's a journey planner for Great Britain and Ireland, so you know before you go.
What Truvel shows you
- Your chance of making each change
- Measured from how those exact buses ran on recent days. For example: "2-minute change, works 1 day in 4."
- Real punctuality
- How often a bus is on time at your stop, and the time of day it runs worst.
- The fare for every leg
- Rail fares cover all of Great Britain. A change of train is priced as one through ticket, and you can see railcard prices. Bus fares are shown where operators publish them.
- Where you can get to
- Pick a point and see everywhere you can reach in 15, 30 or 45 minutes.
- Carbon
- The carbon footprint of every journey, compared with driving alone.
- Walking effort
- How far you walk, how much you climb, and the steepest slope. You can ask for journeys with gentle slopes only.
- Live running
- Expected times, platforms and delay reasons for trains, and delays and positions for buses that report them.
Alerts
Sign up and Truvel can send a notification to your phone, or a Telegram message:
- When to leave for your bus, allowing for the walk to the stop.
- When your bus is near your stop.
- When to get off, a minute or two before your stop.
- If your train is late or cancelled, and its platform.
- When you're nearly there on a train.
- If you might miss your change, with a link to plan again.
- Disruption at the stops and stations you choose.
Set them for one journey, or for the days you make it, and share your arrival time with a link. You choose which alerts you get on your account page. Alerts are free: all you need is an account.
What "on time" means
We use the Traffic Commissioners' standard for buses. A bus is on time if it is no more than 1 minute early and less than 6 minutes late. It is late at 6 minutes or more, and very late at 15 minutes or more.
We measure punctuality from buses that report their positions. That started in northern England and West Sussex on 4 August 2026, and everywhere else operators report positions on 30 September 2026. Where we have less history, we say so.
Where it works
England, Scotland and Wales, and since 18 October 2026 the whole island of Ireland, north and south. Truvel doesn't cover the Isle of Man.
In the Republic of Ireland, Truvel has every operator in the National Transport Authority's timetables, including Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, Go-Ahead Ireland, Luas, DART and Irish Rail. Trains, and buses and trams that report their running, have live times. In Northern Ireland, Translink's buses and NI Railways have timetabled times only for now.
Across Ireland there are no fares or punctuality yet, and alerts work only where there are live times. Truvel can't yet plan a journey between Great Britain and Ireland: plan each side separately.
